Nights are getting cooler and events are already beginning to wind down, but there’s still plenty to do:
All Week:
- The Wiz will play at 5:30 pm from Tuesday to Sunday at the Washington Park Playhouse in Albany.   Meanwhile, Annie Get Your Gun continues Tuesday through Sunday at 8 pm. The last day for these is 8/15, so if you haven’t made it yet, now’s the time.
- Giants Training Camp continues at the SUNY Albany campus.
- There are several Valleycats games, including an 11 am “matinee game” on Thursday–a good option if the evening’s too late for you.
Monday, August 9th:
- At 10 am, you can take a hike or a casting clinic at Moreau Lake State Park.
- Learn about Pond Life at 11 am at the Bethlehem Public Library. kindergarten and up and sign-up is required.
- From 12-4 pm, it’s Circus Day at the Children’s Museum at Saratoga.
- At 1:30 pm, kids can build projects with the folks from Home Depot at Albany’s Main Library.
- From 7-8 pm, the Colonie Town Band is playing at the Colonie Town Hall.
- Call the New York State Museum by today if you want to participate in Saturday’s Tie Dye Workshop.
Tuesday, August 10th:
- At 9 am, take a Red Oak Ridge Hike at Moreau Lake State Park.
- From 10 am to noon, it’s the free, drop-in Summertime Tots at the Children’s Museum at Saratoga.
- The Regal Cinemas free 10 am movies this week are Doogal and Bratz at Crossgates and The Tale of Desperaux and Igor at Clifton Park.
- The Schenectady Bowtie Cinemas free 10 am movies this week is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
- At 2 pm, it’s Legomania for kids 6 and up at the Crandall Public Library. Sign-up is required.
- At 2 pm, kids 8 and up can try their luck at a Minute to Win It Jr. event at the East Greenbush Public Library. Pre-register.
- Grades 6 and up can make Food Art at the Bethlehem Public Library.
- From 2-3 pm, it’s Magnets and More at the Children’s Museum at Saratoga. For ages 7 and up, $6/child, pre-registration and pre-payment required.
- Kids aged 4 and up can learn about Popsicle Science at 3 pm at the Children’s Museum of Science and Technology. Pre-registration is required, and it’s $2/non-member.
- They’re showing Where the Wild Things Are at 6:30 pm at the Crandall Public Library.
- Johnny Cassera’s Route 66 is playing at 6 pm at the Town of East Greenbush-Onderdonk Park.
- April Marie and Friends will be playing at 7 pm in the Town of Brunswick.
- Drop in at 7 pm for a Summer Pajama Time at the East Greenbush Public Library.
- Go on a Firefly Watch at Five Rivers at 7 pm.
- At 8:30 pm at the Albany Pine Bush, take a Bat tour. $2/person, $5/family. Pre-register.
Wednesday, August 11th:
- The Regal Cinemas free 10 am movies this week are Doogal and Bratz at Crossgates and The Tale of Desperaux and Igor at Clifton Park.
- The Schenectady Bowtie Cinemas free 10 am movies this week is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
- Take a hike on the new Luzerne Mountain Trail at Moreau Lake State Park at 10 am.
- At 10:30 am, the monthly Sling Babies gathering is at the Colonie Library.
- At 2 pm, Bells and Motley will be retelling Stone Soup at the East Greenbush Public Library. Pre-register.
- At 2 pm, kids can make Flip Flop Flippers with folks from the Tang Museum a the Bach Branch Library.
- From 3-4 pm, there’s a Cooking Around the World program at the Children’s Museum at Saratoga. It’s for kids 5 and up, you must pre-register, and it’s $8/non-member.
- Super 400 are playing at 5 pm in Troy for Rockin’ on the River.
- The Bel Aires are playing at 6 pm in Half Moon.
- The Refrigerators are playing at 7 pm at Freedom Park in Scotia.
- At 7 pm, there’s a magic show at Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library. It’s free, but tickets are required for entry.
- Erin Lee and Marci will be playing at Clifton Common Park at 7 pm as part of their Performing Arts Family Series.
Thursday, August 12th:
- Take a Walk in the Woods at 9 am at Thacher Nature Center.
- The Regal Cinemas free 10 am movies this week are Doogal and Bratz at Crossgates.
- Sensemaya are playing from noon to 1:30 pm at Jazz on Jay in Schenectady.
- Get Artrageous from 2-3 pm at the Children’s Museum at Saratoga.
- From 2-5 pm, the Albany Art Room has an open Pottery Studio today, and every Thursday afternoon for the rest of the summer.
- At 3 pm, kids 8 and up can participate in a Catapult Challenge at the Children’s Museum of Science and Technology. Pre-registration is required, and it’s $2/non-member.
- At 6 pm, Annie and the Hedonists are playing at Wiswall Park in Ballston Spa.
- At 6:30 pm, The Pipe Kings are playing at The Crossings in Colonie.
- There’s a Family Dance at the Bach Branch Library at 6:30 pm.
- They’re showing Monsters vs. Aliens at 7 pm at the Niskayuna Town Hall Gazebo.
Friday, August 13th:
- Remember that the Albany Institute of History & Art is free for locals on Fridays this summer.
- It’s Wiggle and Giggle from 10 am to 11:30 at the Children’s Museum at Saratoga. This is a drop-in program for the little ones.
- They’re showing The Spy Next Door at 2:30 pm at the Bethlehem Public Library.
- At 3:30 pm, kids 8 and up can take a Yoyo Class at Albany’s Main Public Library.
- At 8 pm, they’re showing Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs at the East Greenbush Town Park.
