Lucky Bamboo

We had J’s birthday party. It was small: she’s got a group of 3 other girls with whom she likes to “play pandas” at recess. I don’t really know how you play pandas–I think that they’re pretending to be panda bears? And it’s a pretend game that they all love, and occasionally some other girls will join them, but as far as J’s concerned, the best pandas game is just the four of them.

I mentioned before that there was quite a bit of thought going into fabulous goody bags, and then I came up with a fabulous idea, if I do say so myself.

Look! It’s bamboo! I’d seen these little stalks around at various stores, and J had admired bamboo plants in our travel. And of course, pandas love bamboo! These stalks were from Price Chopper, only, I think $1.29 each. They just like some water, so we plunked them into little votive holders with some vase filler. I made little notes about caring for bamboo, and the girls decided that they should be rolled up and tied onto each stalk with ribbon. Cute, right?

Awesome idea! Talk about budget-friendly! I can’t wait till my son is old enough to really zero in on a few friends, so I can pare down his birthday party guest lists. At his age now, I feel like I have to invite pretty much everyone we hang out with, and that can get overwhelming given the size of my house. How did the cake come out?
