On Monday we had a 2-hour snow delay at school. The 2-hour snow delay has evolved over time.
During the early elementary school years, the breakdown was approximately:
120 minutes =
10 minutes of shrieking with joy
+ 20 minutes of looking for and putting on snow clothing
+ 40 minutes of playing in the snow
+ 10 minutes of coming back in for some reason and tracking snow all over the house
+ 20 more minutes of playing in the snow
+ 20 minutes of drinking hot cocoa.
More recently, with a middle schooler and a more mature elementary school child, it had become:
120 minutes =
8 minutes of looking for and putting on snow clothing
+ 92 minutes of playing in the snow
+ 12 minutes of drinking hot cocoa
+ 8 minutes of observing & commenting on snowfall celebrations on social media
Now that I have a high schooler and a middler school, it seems like the breakdown is:
120 minutes =
90 minutes of extra sleep and/or bed-lounging with electronic devices
+ 6 minutes of pondering snow-suitable-yet-stylish footwear choices
+ 24 minutes getting ahead on homework.
Snow delays are really, really quiet now. Peaceful and restful and a little sad.
