Wimping Out With Pictures

I managed to exhaust myself today, so I’m wimping out and just sharing a couple of pictures with you.

First, here’s J all death-defying and triumphant:

This awesome, ladder-like tree and others like it are available for climbing in the woods on the far side of our town soccer fields. Now, that’s what I call some fun.

I’ve been doing quite a bit of gardening lately, which is part of the reason why I’m so exhausted today. One of the items I’ll be planting is this beauty:

I believe that I’ve wanted a butterfly bush since Spring, 1999. Why the heck didn’t I just buy it before? Yeah, I don’t know. That’s a good question. But I’m making up for lost time now, baby. I love-love-love the smell of butterfly bush. I think that the remaining spring and summer are going to mean much more gardening for me. I’m thinking that I might have some sort of regular “novice gardener” post with updates, but we’ll see how it goes. And by “novice” I mean a true novice, not like those amateur gardeners who call themselves amateurs but are amateurs like Olympic athletes are amateurs. But more on all that later/ I’m going to bed.

Oh, I am so happy to hear you are gardening. It is good for the soul. And what, specifically happened in spring 1999 to make you want a butterfly bush?

  2. @Big Sister: whoops, I counted wrong. It’s actually since spring 2000, when I started working at the Dyckman Farmhouse and they had a huge, beautiful butterfly bush.

They grow fast, and big! I totally underestimated how much space the one we planted in VA needed and ended up having to transplant it. Just picked up a pink one the other day and trying to decide where in my yard it should live. Enjoy!
